About BlurMyPhoto
BlurMyPhoto is a small independent project run by the BlurMyPhoto team. It does one job: it covers the parts of a still photograph you do not want to publish, and it does that work inside your own browser.
What the site is
A set of free tools for redacting an image before you share it. Faces can be found for you: pick a file and your browser downloads Google's MediaPipe face detector, a small model based on BlazeFace, then marks the faces it finds. Everything else you cover by dragging a box over it, which is how the license plate tool works. You can cover a region with a solid bar, pixelate it, or blur it; blur and pixelation can sometimes be partly undone, and a solid bar cannot.
It is built for the moment you are about to post a photo and notice something in it — a neighbour at a window, a plate on the driveway, an address on a delivery label, an account number in a screenshot.
Why the browser does the work
Your image is decoded, edited and saved by the page you are looking at. Nothing is uploaded, to us or to anyone else. That is a design decision with a reason behind it: a server that never receives your photo cannot leak it, cannot lose it in a backup, and cannot be compelled to hand it over. There is no store to breach because there is no store. It also means the metadata stripper can remove the GPS coordinates in a photo without that photo ever travelling anywhere.
How it is paid for
Advertising, and nothing else. There are no accounts, no email capture, no subscription and no Pro tier. The arrangement is worth stating openly: adverts pay the hosting bill, your images stay on your device, and nothing about you is sold, because nothing about you is collected in the first place.
Free forever, in writing
Free forever. No sign-up, no watermark, no limits, and no paid tier added later. That last part is a commitment rather than a plan, and it is worth making because the alternative is worse: introducing a paywall afterwards would contradict every other page on this site and cost far more trust than the money would be worth.
What the site does not do
Being clear about the edges is part of being trustworthy. There is no video support — still images only. There is no automatic license plate detection, because there is no reliable, permissively licensed plate model that runs in a browser, and drawing one box by hand is not a hardship. Camera RAW files are refused rather than mangled, since browsers cannot decode them dependably. There is no cloud storage, no history and no account, so nothing you do here is saved between visits.
